Didn't know what to expect in Carnarvon as hadn't heard of much to do or see here, so presumed it was just a stopover on the way north.

3rd July 2008.
Once we had turned of The North West Coastal Highway heading towards Denham, we soon came across Hamelin Pool and the Stromatolites. Heard of stalactites and stalagmites, but never heard of stromatolites so thought we'd better stop and have a look.

29th June 2008.
We were really looking forward to Kalbarri as we had heard so much about the gorges, Murchinson River and rugged coastline. We left the rain behind and the clouds gradually cleared as we headed north. Then wondered what that bright light in the sky was. The sun had came out to greet us as we turned off the North West Highway.

27th June 2008.
Off to Geraldton, the self proclaimed Lobster capital of the world. Approaching Geraldton, we noticed all the trees were leaning over to the right pretty heavily. In fact, it was quite unnatural the way they were growing, not upwards to the sky like most trees, but horizontall about a metre above the ground. We saw an "information" sign and stopped to learn more. We discovered that as the wind was so strong here, the trees have adapted to the strong winds and now grow horizontally instead of vertically.

14-New Norcia & The Pinnacles |

At long last we're on the road again and heading off to The Pinnacles. When we reached the Brand Highway turnoff, we saw that New Norcia was only an hour or so up the road so decided to head there first. The sign jogged my memory and I remembered friends had been there and said it was something different and worth a visit.
