Home Our Trip WA - South 11-Bunbury
11-Bunbury

10th June 2008.
Arrived in Bunbury and it was absolutely bucketing down with rain, yes again.  Bunbury doesn't really have any major tourist attractions other than the Dolphin Discovery Centre, but we found some little gems. We caught up with Kelly and Tony (friends of ours from Perth) and had a nice barbie with them.

Almost an Island, Bunbury is a cosmopolitan city surrounded by water. The sheltered waters of Koombana Bay are home to over 100 bottlenose dolphins, although we didn't see any. We were a bit disappointed with The Dolphin Discovery Centre as we paid $7.00 each to go in and see what??? If the dolphins aren't in the bay, you're basically paying $7.00 each just to go into a shop.

Ferguson Valley:

Kelly and Tony told us to go out to the Ferguson Valley and glad we did. It was a lovely, relaxing drive with beautifull rolling hills with everthing so clean, green and lush. So different to the countryside we've seen so far in WA. I reckon the cows must have shorter legs on one side coz they all seem to be able to stand up straight on the steep hills.

Gnomesville:

We didn't see this in any of the travel guides in Bunbury, Kelly told us about it and it's mind blowing. Apparantly someone put a gnome near this roundabout in the Ferguson Valley scenic drive with a note on it and since then, people keep putting more gnomes there with notes on them. So we thought we'd do our thing and leave our own gnome. You gotta be joking, think we could find a gnome in Bunbury????  We spent 3 hours driving around shops and garden centres and not one of them sold gnomes. Anyway, off we went gnomeless and WOW, what a sight. We were expecting to see maybe around a 100 gnomes. Wrooooong. There are thousands of them, big ones, small ones and every type of conceivable gnome you can imagine.

A most enjoyable and totally different day. Well worth taking the time out and highly recommended.

Life On The Road:

Getting closer to Perth and looking forward to catching up with our family and friends. Been on the road now for over 4 weeks and although we've had to endure the cold winter days and nights plus all the rain down south, we're having a ball and enjoying the freedom of life on the road and the adventure it brings. It's given us a both a new lease on life and we're loving it every minute of it, well almost every minute. Will be sorting out all the little bugs in Perth and really look forward to heading north where our adventure really starts.
