9th March 2009. The Grampians:The trip up to Halls Gap in The Grampians was a pleasure in every way, the weather was a treat, the caravan site was a nice bush retreat and the wildlife welcomed us to the valley surrounded by The Grampian Mountains. Next morning and time to do some exploring. First thing we noticed was all the trees, although green and blossoming, were black and charcoaled from fire and upon further investigation, fire swept through the whole area in 2006 and the forests and vegetation is only now slowly recovering. Victoria has certainly had more than it's fair share of fires in the recent past. The views from the mountains were clouded by the haze from the recent Melbourne fires and the waterfalls were suffering from lack of rainfall. Life On The Road:Life on the road is still awesome and this continent never fails to amaze us with every twist and turn :) Travelling Oz homepage |
