2nd January 2009. Yaamba:We really enjoyed our beak with Noreen and Sandy and here's some pics. Capricorn Caves:On record as the first tourist attraction in Queensland, the limestone Capricorn Caves are definitely worth a visit. The labyrinth of large caves, tunnels and the Zig Zag passage by candle light are an experience not to be missed. One of the main attractions we've not seen in any caves before, was the Cathedral Cave with it's near perfect acoustics which has benches/pews and they regularly have weddings and concerts in there, awesome. 1770:Found the name really intriguing so had to go and see The Town of Seventeen Seventy and Agnes Waters. Captain Cook landed here in the Endeavour in 1770 hence the name. It's a small layed back coastal town and unfortunately due to the Xmas school holidays, the place was absolutely packed and all tours were booked out, but well worth the visit anyway. We wanted to go on the LARC, an amphibious vehicle that is equally at home on the land or in the sea, but it was booked out. Woodgate:Another nice small coastal town with the caravan park opposite the beach, but once again packed out due to the time of year. Rainbow Beach:We loved Rainbow Beach and the views from the houses on the hill are amazing. This is also the other access to Fraser Island via the ferries from Inskip. Fraser Island is only 10 minutes by ferry and costs $80.00 per vehicle return while passengers on foot are free :) On Route:We then came across the Big Pineapple and Ettamogah pub.. Australia Zoo:You either love him or hate him, but Crikey, Steve Irwin has left a legacy for Australia to be proud of. As a zoo, we'd imagined animals pacing around in cages and enclosures, WROOOONG ...... nothing of the sort. It's a wild life sanctuary with a polished entertainment show and it's very well done. As we drove in, we couldn't believe our eyes, three huge car parks and the first two were full. Over a thousand car bays and three quarters of them are full, so it's gonna be packed in there and not very nice. How wrong can one be. The place is so big and there are so many seats in the Crocoseum, the place wasn't even half full. Glass House Mountains:A short drive from Australia Zoo and we're in the Glass House Mountains. Another place named by Captain Cook in 1770, because they reminded him of the glass furnaces in his hometown. Life On The Road:It took a few days to get back into the swing of things after our Xmas break with Noreen and Sandy, It wasn't too hard, but we're slowly getting back into travelling oz and now it's life as usual, where do we want to be tomorrow :) |
