5th December 2008.
A two day drive all the way back up to Townsville so Marlene could see the specialist, then some more sight seeing as we again headed south.
We soon discovered that we'd missed two waterfalls on our way through first time, Wallaman and Jourama.
Wallaman Falls is a 51kms drive west from Ingham and definitely not suitable for caravans or trailers. The drive up the mountain range is very steep, winding through very sharp and tight turns. As you reach the top, the vegetation suddenly changes and you're driving through an impressive rain forest. It's worth driving slowly and keeping your eyes open as there are lots of tropical birds around including the cassowary. As suddenly as the rain forest appeared, it ends as you approach the turnoff to the falls. It really is wierd, no gradual changes, it just suddenly ends. Wallaman Falls certainly is impressive and is Australia's largest sheer drop waterfall falling 285 metres.
Jourama Falls is 24kms south of Ingham and the top section can be seen from the highway as we headed south. Although the falls is quite high, it comprises of 10 individual waterfalls from top to bottom.
Life On The Road:
Next we're off to Yaamba, just north of Rockhamton, to catch up with Noreen and Sandy, friends from Perth who moved over here a few years ago. |
